THE announced cuts in the Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programmes (EGIP) is no great surprise and simply confirms my thoughts on the matter ("Anger over £350m cut to rail investment plans", The Herald, July 5).
It was overly ambitious as regards capacity on the lines and routes in question and certainly beyond the capabilities of Glasgow Queen Street High Level to cope with unless services were diverted which, hopefully ensures that the Falkirk Grahamston/Cumbernauld-Queen Street trains will continue to operate as at present as is the intention for those serving Maryhill/Anniesland. As someone involved in train operations during my BR employment I await the full details of what is now intended with more than a passing interest.
