It is not "blockheaded to rule out a Plan B for the economy" (Leader, The Herald, July 13).

It is correct that there has been a drop in household consumption and a knock-on effect in a falling rate of inflation. Only last week we learned that during the first quarter of the year petrol consumption had dropped by 15% and diesel by 6%. Furthermore, it is true that over the whole UK the average house price has fallen by 12% over the last year.
