I was interested to read the story about staff morale at HMRC (Staff morale at HMRC so poor it needs its own 'truth and reconciliation' body, News, July 15).

Labour's shadow treasury secretary, Cathy Jamieson, is quoted as saying that "if they are serious about stopping tax avoidance, the Government must ensure that HMRC is properly staffed, resourced, and has a good working environment where staff feel they are valued".
