I WAS surprised that your excellent obituary (April 18) of Dundee United's Frank Kopel did not mention the fantastic goal he scored against Anderlecht in the UEFA cup in October, 1979.

The goal was the epitome of United's buccaneering style, with Paul Sturrock's brilliant run and cross being met by Frank's volley into the top corner. Archie MacPherson described it as "of the best goals you'll ever see". It was also the only Scottish goal to feature in Match of the Day's UK-wide Goal of the Season that year.

Surprisingly, the goal did not win the Scottish equivalent, Sportscene's Goal of the Season. If memory serves that was won by a Rangers goal and if memory further serves ,the judge was an ex-Rangers manager.

Thanks for the memory, Frank.
