YOUR golf correspondent Nick Rodger makes some interesting comments about the decision by Augusta National Golf Club, home of the US Masters, to admit women as members ("Wind of change blows through Augusta but don't expect it to carry across the Atlantic any time soon", Herald Sport, August 22).
Well, two women anyway – former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and financier Darla Moore; it's a start. It's sad to read that the reaction of the premier golf club in Scotland was the rather pompous "the rules of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews specify a male membership". Mr Rodger points out that other top Scottish clubs such as Royal Troon and Muirfield also allow only men to be members. That doesn't exactly make you feel proud to live in a modern, inclusive country, does it?
