With all the negative press about inadequate security provision, travel chaos, enormous queues, empty seats and ghastly food outlets I had begun to regret my decision to spend a day at the London Olympics for the start of the athletics.
Perhaps I was just lucky but I came home to Glasgow very impressed. The crowds were certainly enormous but were handled efficiently and with good humour. Travel to and from the stadium went without a hitch and there were plenty of toilet facilities and food outlets (albeit they could have been more imaginative) with minimal queuing.
