I, like many other parents, was also wondering how very young children were at a late-night cinema showing of an age-inappropriate film such as The Dark Knight Rises (Don't go gunning for the parents, Comment, July 29).
Vicky Allan writes that "only the strictest of parents these days have never stumbled back to a 'family friendly' music festival". Oh well, I must be one of the really strict few. When I had my children, I stopped dragging them along to festivals, all-day shopping trips and long pub lunches. How selfish of me! When you embark on parenthood, you have to adopt a selfless view. Gone are the days when you can just up-sticks and do things when you feel like it. It's called being a parent.
