IT was heartening to read the contribution from Mary Thomas (Letters, July 31).

I started my political life as a young teenager by leafleting for Billy Wolfe in the 1962 by-election and I have voted SNP at every opportunity since. I sneaked into the old St Michael's Hotel in Linlithgow against the orders of my very left-wing Dad to hear Mr Wolfe speak and the SNP message from 50 years ago still resonate
