Anyone who has tried to record music or make a Skype call on their PC will have experienced the minefield that is the computer microphone.

Simple, call-centre-style headsets are fine for one-to-one calls, but try to involve others in the recording and it gets tricky. Most laptops and webcams have a built-in microphone, but the audio quality is poor and you're guaranteed to pick up every whirr, hum and click that comes out of the machine. For the best audio quality an external desktop mic is the solution.
