SCOTTISH fishermen last night welcomed the news two fishing firms had received the largest combined fine in British maritime history after breaking strict EU quotas in Cornish and Scottish waters.

Hijos De Vidal Bandin SA from Spain and its subsidiary company, UK-registered Sealskill Limited, were fined a total of £1.62 million after being found to have lied in logbooks and landing declarations to disguise the amount of fish caught illegally.
