A JCB operator who was caught drink-driving after he left his truck to buy a packet of cigarettes has been fined £600 and banned from driving for two years.

Alan Wilson, 28, an Edinburgh City Council employee, admitted being more than twice the legal drink-drive limit when in charge of the JCB.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Wilson had 78 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath when he was caught on August 3. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
