A SHERIFF refused to sentence a drink-driving pensioner - after finding out they were members of the same golf club.

Kenneth Gray pleaded guilty to driving home from Gullane golf club, in East Lothian, after a drinking session in the clubhouse.

Sheriff Peter Braid told Haddington Sheriff Court he could not impose a sentence on the OAP as he was a member of the same golf club and "justice has to be seen to be done".

Gray was handed an interim driving ban yesterday and will return to court next month.
