A MAN who used his home as a safe house to store £470,000 of drugs has been jailed for almost five years.

George McGuiness let dealers use his property in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, to stockpile consignments of cocaine and amphetamine.

The 47-year-old's wife and daughter were initially held after detectives raided the house when he was out.

He later handed himself into a police station, saying: "I'm George McGuinness. You have my girls. I am here to make it right."

McGuinness, who already has a conviction for a firearms charge, yesterday admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Lady Rae jailed him for four years and 10 months at the High Court in Glasgow.

The judge told him: "Your role was storing drugs for dealers who you are not prepared to name."
