A POLICE officer is facing court accused of seriously injuring a seven-year-old girl by driving a marked police car into the youngster as she crossed the road.

Gary Johnston, a serving officer with Tayside Police, is accused of driving the Ford Focus police car dangerously while on duty on November 13 last year.

It is alleged that Johnston caused the car to collide with a man and his seven-year-old daughter – who cannot be named for legal reasons – on Dundee's Douglas Road.
