A FORMER Glasgow gang member and star of Ken Loach's award-winning film The Angels' Share is to speak publicly about the project that steered him away from a life of violence – and helped propel him to stardom.
Paul Brannigan, who plays young father Robbie in the film, was one of 400 young people who benefited from a project run by the Violent Reduction Unit (VRU) in the city's east end.
The groundbreaking Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV), which is based on a model used to break down gang culture in Boston, forces members to confront the consequences of their actions with a threat of mass action against the group should one commit a serious assault or murder.
