THE Government's decision to base a publicly funded emergency tug in Orkney and not in the Western Isles has been described as "utterly ludicrous" as council officials said they would be seeking a meeting with the Secretary of State for Scotland over the move.
There was no Government announcement but, to the surprise of councillors in the Western Isles, Orkney Islands Council issued a statement welcoming the decision that a new emergency towing vessel for the waters around the Northern and Western Isles would be stationed in Orkney.
