LANDOWNERS and gamekeepers yesterday called for new measures to control the buzzard population after one was caught on camera taking an osprey chick from a nest.

A female Osprey called Libby at the Lochter Activity Centre, Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, recently hatched two healthy chicks from three eggs.

But earlier this week the cameras caught Libby leaving the nest and a buzzard swooping down to snatch one of the chicks in its talons. Discarded remains of the osprey chick were found later.
