A nightclub outside which a woman was found unconscious faces a second fight to remain open in little over a year.

Police Scotland has submitted a report to licensing chiefs in Glasgow following the incident at The Arches.

A total of 26 people around the venue on Saturday night have been reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged drugs and alcohol offences. A member of staff is understood to be among those reported.

The venue was shut early as a result of the incident, with a hearing to determine its future expected within two to three weeks.

The Arches, which was last year linked to the death of an underage schoolgirl, Regane MacColl, 17, a year ago, said the incident where the 30-year-old woman was found was an "alcohol related episode".

Police called on Glasgow City Council to review The Arches' licence after Regane's death.

Although the schoolgirl had taken drugs at the venue shortly before her death no action was taken as the licensing board said it was constrained by the law and there were no failings by management.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "There were 15 people reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged drugs offences and a further 11 in connection with alleged alcohol breaches.

"We will also be submitting a report to the licensing board."

The board would consider whether the venue could have done anything within reason to prevent the collapse and alleged offences.

Police Scotland is expected to argue the licence should be reviewed as it has breached conditions on preventing crime and disorder and securing public safety.

But one source said they could end up with a lengthy suspension.

Arches spokeswoman Georgia Riungu said: "We would like to clarify that our robust zero tolerance policy, including all additional measures recently agreed with Police Scotland, were in force on the night."
