Edinburgh's Princes Street was closed after reports a man fell from the Scott Monument.

The capital's main thoroughfare was cordoned off at around 9.30am today.

All traffic was diverted as officers attended the scene and trams were running a reduced service.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police are currently in attendance at Princes Street Gardens after a man was reported to have fallen from the Scott Monument at around 9.30am.

"Princes Street is currently closed from Hanover Street to South St David Street while emergency services are at the scene."

Edinburgh City Council tweeted: "Please be aware that Princes Street and the east side of the Gardens are currently closed while emergency services attend an incident."
