A controversial and violent new movie by the director of The Exorcist is to open this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The annual festival will open with a red-carpet UK premiere of William Friedkin's Killer Joe, whose US distributors tried and failed to stop the film receiving the highest NC-17 rating, the equivalent of the old X rating.
