TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has voiced concern about the thin appearance of today's celebrities and the pressure on young girls to look like them.

The host said she finds it "scary" to see how skinny celebrities are when she meets them and discovers that they are even smaller than they look on screen.

Kelly, 54, said: "Our children have never been fatter, eating and drinking themselves into an early grave, and we hold up these images of teeny, tiny, beany, weeny people and say, 'That's what you're supposed to be like'.

"I mean, you see these people (celebrities) on screen, they're tiny, right? When you see them in real life, it's actually scary how small they are... And there is a lot of pressure on young girls, and it really is a shame."

Kelly also criticised the dieting industry, saying the "only way" to lose excess weight "is to get up off your bottom and don't eat as much. End of. That's it."
