Chariots of Fire producer Lord Puttnam said yesterday Scottish athlete Eric Liddell would have been "bemused" by the London Olympics.
His 1981 film, which was inspired by Liddell, won four Academy Awards when it was first released.
Its opening scene of runners on a beach, filmed at St Andrews, and its Vangelis sound track have become synonymous with the Olympics.
