THE UK Government yesterday announced it would act against plans to give a quango chief a huge bonus – but would still fail to veto the payment.
Transport Secretary Justine Greening said she would attend Network Rail's agm this week to vote against chief executive Sir David Higgins's £340,000 bonus. But she attracted outrage by suggesting her actions would essentially be meaningless and she could not block the payment.
