THE contents of a historic mansion are expected to fetch thousands of pounds for the local community when they go under the hammer.

Lawyer Andrew Nimmo-Smith bequeathed his Borders estate, the Haining, for a major cultural centre when he died in 2009. Now paintings and furniture that was stored inside the house will be auctioned off, with half of the proceeds going to the charitable trust set up to maintain the property.
