EMPLOYERS have been warned by leading Scottish charities to be more pro-active in dealing with stress in the workplace after it emerged former top athlete Yvonne Murray has been admitted to hospital.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist, who works with North Lanarkshire Leisure, has been admitted to a psychiatric ward at Wishaw General Hospital suffering from work-related stress and anxiety.

The Musselburgh-born star's mother Mary Furnell says her daughter, 47, became ill after working in excess of 80 hours a week in her role as a senior athletics development and events officer.
