LOTHIAN Buses is to replace a "substantial "proportion of the routes connecting Edinburgh to Midlothian being axed by rival firm First East.
The council-owned company has submitted an application to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner to increase the frequency of services and introduce new routes to ensure villages are not cut off from the public transport network.
