A COACH operator who carried out work for schools and a Falkirk Council has seen the number of vehicles he can operate halved, after it was found that drivers had been encouraged to avoid recording the number of hours they had worked.

John Campbell, trading as Linlithgow-based Vision Travel, was found to have deliberately failed to keep proper records of his drivers' duties, withheld records from a traffic examiner and encouraged drivers not to use tachograph charts.

Scotland's Traffic Commissioner, Joan Aitken, said that Mr Campbell allowed drivers on school contracts to create the impression that they had available hours, when they should have been taking rests or breaks.

Under his licence, the number of vehicles he will be able to operate will be slashed from eight to four.
