RAIL services gradually returned to normal last night after most of the ScotRail network was shut down by one of the worst storms in more than a decade, which saw around 200 trees blown onto tracks.

Services from Glasgow's Central and Queen stations were suspended entirely on the high level platforms, while Edinburgh Waverley, which is undergoing construction work, was closed due to the danger of scaffolding being blown over. Services to Perth, Inverness and Aberdeen from the Central Belt were suspended for much of the day.
