DAVID Cameron is in "good spirits" while Nick Clegg is "really enjoying life", say Coalition sources, but you would not think it from the recent daily grind of terrible headlines.

From the granny and charity taxes to Pastygate and this week's Abu Qatada debacle, the Prime Minister and his deputy appear to be suffering from the effects of inhaling the nitrogen of bad publicity.

"It's mid-term blues," noted one Tory grandee. "Every government gets it. We just have to hold our nerve and carry on."
