A £1 BILLION Youth Contract to help rescue Britain's "lost generation" of jobless youngsters will be unveiled today in a Government bid to create at least 410,000 short-term work places for 18 to 24-year-olds across the UK.

Some 40,000 will be in Scotland.

Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, will unveil a compromise deal thrashed out between the Conservatives and LibDems just days after the UK youth unemployment figure topped one million and 100,000 in Scotland.
