ED Miliband sought to goad David Cameron over Lords reform by repeating a claim the Prime Minister had been involved in a Commons confrontation with leading Tory rebel Jesse Norman, telling MPs he had been engaged in "fisticuffs in the Lobby".

Mr Cameron, it was said, had engaged in angry exchanges with the Herefordshire MP over claims the backbencher had been misrepresenting the PM in emails.

However, Mr Cameron brushed the claims aside as "tittle tattle", "rumour" and "half-baked gossip".
