The Liberal Democrats believe they are effectively rewriting long-standing rules on when a minister can be fired from Cabinet following this week's explosive tit-for-tat row between the Tories and their coalition partners.
The LibDem junior Coalition partner says that the convention of collective responsibility – which states that cabinet members must resign or be fired if they vote against government policy – is not "set in stone" .
