STUDENTS from Zambia are to be given the chance to study climate change in Scotland.

Two university scholarships will be created next year as part of a joint Scottish Government and For-eign Office initiative.

They are intended to mark 50 years since Zambia became independent, and are part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Chevening Programme, supported by £60,000 from the Scottish Government.

External Affairs and International Development Minister Humza Yousaf will make the announcement today saying: "Scotland and Zambia have longstanding historical links, and these scholarships underline our commitment to a shared future.

"The Scottish Government wants to share our world-leading expertise on climate change, sustainable energy and the environment with partners around the world.

"The scholarships will enhance the links and common interests that exist between Scotland and Zambia."

Norman Chipakupaku, of Zambia Independence Celebrations, said: "I sincerely hope and pray that this announcement will mark the beginning of a stronger relationship between governments and the people of Scotland and Zambia."
