George Galloway's Celebrity Big Brother antics have been mocked by his Labour replacement as MP, who insisted: "The Spandex cat has truly left the building."

Naz Shah defeated the maverick Scots politician in Bradford West and said she was up against one of the "most vile and personalised election campaigns ever seen in Great Britain".

Ms Shah offered few compliments although did reflect on his "sensational acting abilities".

She recalled the moment Mr Galloway pretended to be a cat on Celebrity Big Brother, in which the then Respect MP purred and pretended to lap cream from the hands of actress Rula Lenska.

In her maiden speech, Ms Shah said it was an honour to be the first woman to represent Bradford West, but it had been one of the most "vile and personalised election campaigns" ever seen in Britain.

On Mr Galloway, a London Mayoral candidate, she had little good to say.

"My predecessor was, and I am told, a great orator. The sad truth is the only words he ever directed towards me were misogynistic, vitriolic, very dangerous, and to quote him, only ever had a fleeting relationship with the truth."

But Ms Shah complemented his acting abilities in the 2006 Big Brother show, in particular his "taste for red leotards and black hats."

She said that voters "patience and indeed mine certainly paid off when we handed him his P45 on the May 8.

"The Spandex cat has truly left the building."
