It used to be remarked that it was harder to get into the England cricket team than it was to get out of it, and similar concerns are starting to surround the Scotland ranks.

In recent months, and irrespective of the problems faced by the apocalyptic weather which has blighted the 2012 campaign, several Saltires seem to have stalled or gone backwards, and yet the selectors appear determined to make as few changes as possible. Perhaps they are right and their options are limited. But, then again, those who complain about the squad being a closed shop also merit a hearing.
