Paul Hoffmann has always been one of Scottish cricket's most whole-hearted enthusiasts, but the Australian-born Saltires stalwart was feeling a bit disgruntled as he gazed out onto the pitch at the Bothwell Castle Policies venue in Uddingston yesterday.
Even the twin delights of a chocolate milkshake and Tunnock's Tea Cake couldn't perk up this fellow with a trencherman's appetite, but there again, when you are a groundsman in Scotland and you are forced to live your life to the incessant rhythm of the rain, it can demoralise the best of us.
