T he glum demeanour hardly seems surprising when his job is head coach of the national cricket team in a country with Scotland's climate, but it would be wrong to think that default facial expression offers an accurate reflection of Peter Steindl's outlook.
Some four-and-a-half years have passed since he took the post and, even though our meeting took place alongside a puddle the size of a small duck pond lying on the outfield at The Grange that had wrecked a planned session with some of his players, the native Queenslander expressed real passion for what he is doing. "It's a great job. I love doing what I do," he said, ahead of his team's meetings with Canada in the Intercontinental Cup this week at Uddingston, then in two One Day Internationals at The Grange next week.
