Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland's chief executive, has offered a robust defence of the national team's head coach after he was subjected to a withering attack from a former international player.
In an interview published in Herald Sport yesterday Qasim Sheikh, formerly a full-time contracted player with Cricket Scotland, called for Peter Steindl to be sacked from his post.
Now playing in English minor league cricket, Sheikh claimed to have been victimised and that other contenders for Scotland places had been similarly treated; that Steindl was only an under-13 level coach; and that the Scotland assistant coach, Tony Judd, had disrespected him when he played in a provincial match this year.
