Rangers winger Fraser Aird admits the Ibrox crowd were perfectly right to boo Ally McCoist's side off as they were stunned at home by Hibernian.

Around 31,000 fuming fans let their team know exactly what they thought at half-time after the sloppy Light Blues allowed Jason Cummings to score either side of David Gray's header.

And there were more boos at the final whistle as Rangers failed to rally despite Nicky Law's 55th-minute volley, going down 3-1.

Aird said: "It's only fair that the fans reacted the way they did. They pay their money to come watch us play and the boys were not up to the standard that Rangers players should be in the first half.

"They have the right to be mad, but I think coming out in the second half we did everything we could to right the result.

"We just didn't have the time to get more goals."

The defeat is the second serious test of Rangers' promotion credentials to have been failed by Ally McCoist's side already this term.

The Light Blues were beaten 2-1 by Hearts at Ibrox last month and now trail the Scottish Championship leaders by six points.

And Aird admits the club are playing catch-up in the race for the second-tier title.

"The big games are the ones that matter," he said. "It will come down to them at the end of the season.

"We've lost to our two contenders for the league already at home, but we just need to move on and hope they drop points elsewhere.

"The boys are disappointed. It's not nice when you lose like we did against Hibs.

"We simply were not good enough in the first half. Before they got the first goal I thought it was quite even. The game wasn't going anywhere.

"But after they scored they got a bit of momentum and went on to score two more goals.

"We came out in the second half and went for it. We got one back but we didn't have the time to get the two other goals we needed.

"To come back from 3-0 down would have been an amazing result but it's done now, and we have to move on to the game against Livingston on Saturday. "
