Dundee United say they will contest the two-match ban offered to striker Nadir Ciftci for his clash with Inverness' Gary Warren.

Ciftci has been issued with a Notice of Complaint following an off-the-ball incident late in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Tannadice.

Caley Thistle defender Warren was sent off by referee Cammy Murray, while Ciftci was also booked during the melee which followed.

But the Scottish Football Association's compliance officer Tony McGlennan has now charged the 23-year-old Turk with lashing out at Warren.

He is accused of breaching Disciplinary Rule 200 and committing an act of violent conduct by "deliberately" striking an opposing player on the neck or head with his arm.

The SFA had offered Ciftci an immediate two-match ban but in a statement posted on their official website, the Tangerines said: "Dundee United confirms that it has refused the fixed suspension offer in relation to the Notice of Complaint issued to Nadir Ciftci following an alleged breach of Disciplinary Rule 200 at the Dundee United v Inverness Caledonian Thistle game on Tuesday, 24th February 2015."

Ciftci will learn his fate on March 5 when he appears before Hampden bosses.

Ciftci is now free to face Partick Thistle at Tannadice on Saturday but if he fails to have the ban overturned, it will rule him out of the Scottish League Cup final with Celtic on March 15, as well as the William Hill Scottish Cup last-eight clash with the Hoops a week earlier.
