KENNY DALGLISH said it had been "an honour and a privilege" to manage Liverpool for a second time despite having his contract terminated yesterday just one year into a three-year deal.

The Scot paid the price for "disappointing" results following a season in which the club reached both domestic cup finals, winning the Carling Cup, but finished eighth in the Barclays Premier League. Steve Clarke, his assistant, has also left the club.
