Ally McCoist’s playing career began with two prolific years at Muirton Park, two miles away as the crow flies from McDiarmid Park, but in every other way it was entirely appropriate that Perth should provide him with the first victory of his young managerial career. McCoist still has a mountain to climb in Malmo on Wednesday night, but this result, courtesy of a goal in either half from Steven Naismith and Nikica Jelavic, at least took advantage of Celtic’s SPL inactivity and started to soothe a few of the worries which have begun to accumulate on his brow in recent weeks.
