The players of Inverness Caledonian Thistle might otherwise have departed Glasgow on Saturday evening hoping to see the back of the city following the 3-1 defeat by Partick Thistle but Dean Brill, the goalkeeper, believes a return trip this evening is the perfect antidote.

Brill and his team-mates suffered the indignity of losing their unbeaten record and a previously perfect run of clean sheets to the Maryhill men yet, with Glasgow beckoning once more for a League Cup third-round tie against Rangers, the former Luton Town goalkeeper is relishing the prospect.

The last time the sides faced other in this competition, Inverness were 3-0 winners and while a number of the veterans of that victory remain at the Highland club, Rangers - then in the Third Division - are a different proposition.

The 28-year-old said: "It's a strange one. We're the Premiership club but I would say they're favourites. Their budget compared to ours wouldn't even be comparable. It's the same with the home crowd they will have tomorrow night. But week-in, week-out, we punch above our weight in the Premiership. It'll be a good test for us - and also a good test for them. We're excited about it and it is good to get a game so quickly after Saturday's defeat. Otherwise, you can dwell on it through the week."

Brill says he was proud of the clean sheet record his side had built up but which was subsequently obliterated at Firhill. However, it was the defeat rather than the goals that hurt most at Partick.

"Records are records. We haven't been paying too much attention to them," he said. "We just get on with it and do what we can in any given game. I was more disappointed to lose the game..

"It's my job to try to keep clean sheets, but it's the team's job as well. We all work hard and this year there is a little bit more emphasis on keeping the ball. The gaffer's philosophy is if we have the ball, the other team can't score.

"You are always going to concede goals - you can't go a whole season without conceding. But we will hopefully show it [the defeat] was a minor blip and we will aim to put it right on Tuesday."
