The wettest Scottish summer in memory took its toll on yet another sporting event yesterday as play was abandoned on the opening day of the Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles Hotel with only 20% of the field having completed their rounds.

With several greens waterlogged play was initially suspended for three hours before officials were forced to concede defeat for the day. However, with forecasts predicting that the weather will remain fair for the three remaining days of play they believe they will still be able to get through the full 72 holes.
