Rory McIlroy birdied two of his first three holes to move into the top 10 on day three of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

McIlroy was tied for 12th on three under overnight but picked up shots at the second and third holes to move six shots behind leader Jim Furyk at halfway.

The American followed up a magnificent opening round of 63 with a four-under 66 at the Firestone CC (South Course) yesterday to open up a two-stroke lead over Spaniard Rafael Cabrera Bello.
