KIERON Achara is keeping his fingers crossed basketball can force its way into the mainstream of British sport after Britain finished their Olympic campaign on a high.

As part of GB's first Olympic basketball team since 1948 it had been a story of near misses for Achara and co until they finally claimed victory yesterday, defeating China 90-58.

Achara played a starring role, chipping in with 16 points and six rebounds while veteran guard Nate Reinking added 12 points, captain Drew Sullivan hit 11 points and Robert Archibald also impressed with nine rebounds.
