Eilidh Child was left deflated in her private battle with Perri Shakes-Drayton as her British rival propelled herself on to the list of Olympic medal contenders at the Diamond League meeting at a sodden Crystal Palace.
The Londoner, who pipped Scotland's Child to the UK title three weeks ago, delivered a blistering performance to win in 53.77 seconds, destroying a world-class field that included European champion Irina Davydova who was well adrift in second.
