David Florence is accustomed to seeing obstacles in his way.

In canoe slalom it goes with the territory but the 29-year-old is intent on putting even more barriers in his way as he chases a medal at London 2012.

Florence, who had an application to be an astronaut turned down by the European Space Agency in the build-up to Beijing, was a high-flyer at the last Olympics where he picked up a silver medal. As if the challenge of going for gold four years later was not enough, Florence decided to not only go for canoe singles in London but also the doubles with English kayaker Richard Hounslow.
