Katherine Grainger, the six-time world champion and triple Olympic silver medallist, will take a big step towards realising her London 2012 gold ambition when she and her partner, Anna Watkins, open their campaign in the World Cup series in Belgrade, Serbia, today.
The pair are unbeaten in double sculls since joining forces two seasons ago, but face a strong field of 11 crews this weekend. Although potentially strong pairs from Australia, New Zealand and USA will not be present, Grainger and Watkins face three crews from the Chinese squad and a new combination from Germany. However, anything other than a win in Sunday's final will be a major disappointment.
