After a century on the sidelines, Argentina moved to rugby's centre stage in Cape Town's Newland's Stadium yesterday, as they took on South Africa in their first match in the Rugby Championship, the expanded Tri Nations competition.

However, after years of intensive lobbying to break the competitive stranglehold of the sport's traditional powers, the Pumas could not make the start they had dreamt of, going down 27-6 to the Springboks in a match in which they competed ferociously but made far too many errors to make their pressure count.
